Air Media 8-7-2014

Air Media is set up to provide presentation access through an access code.  This code is not secure, giving opportunity for others to take control of the screen.  This issue has not been resolve, but Crestron (the people who made Air Media) is aware of the issue.

Apple Products and HDCP in new rooms (5-7-2014)

For those of you with Macs moving into the new building or using rooms with HDMI built in, you need an HDMI adapter to get copyrighted digital media (anything purchased or downloaded via itunes or any other digital distribution store, i.e. Amazon, Google Play, etc.) working in the room with your Macbook or iPad.

Here are my findings regarding HDCP on Macs (there is no difference from each model of Mac computers):

Cable Lengths (3-21-2014)

We are aware that some cables are too short when trying to connect them to devices.  We are working on a resolution.

Air Media (3-21-2014)

  1. The Air Media presentation source does not play video well.  This includes video from websites (YouTube, Vimeo, Netflix) or local discs within the computer.  However, using Air Media for simple presentations (PowerPoint, Keynote, Word, Excel) is fine.
  2. The Air Media/Sharp Software combination is a bad idea.  This combination will cause extreme lag for annotation and simple touch exhibitions.

  3. Air Media has been known to crash randomly...particularly with Mac Devices.  As we investigate the issue, please plan on an alternative if you find the Air Media's performance to be inconsistent.  The cable connections work just fine.

Mac adapter (3-13-2014)

When using the Mac adapter for connecting to HDMI or VGA, it is a possibility for the EDID information to not successfully coommuicate depending on the method of connection.  In other words, if a professor were to connect the adapter to the system incorrectly, the it is totally possible that the system will not recoginize the computer.  Click on this link to learn how to properly connect to an AVEC: Troubleshooting Information#HOWDOICONNECTMYMACBOOKDEVICETOTHEDISPLAYSYSTEM?

Mac audio (3-13-2014)

When you are connecting the Mac to an AVEC that has an HDMI, you will not be able to control the volume at the computer.  Instead, you will have to rely on the volume control at the remote.  It is possible to work around this issue with a 3rd party software like sound flower.  Here is the link: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/14067/soundflower
